Life and Business Success is our calling. This was an area which MixFM always encouraged us to actively focus on, was helping small business and so we did.
We made it our business to interview a number of small business owners – from the owners [Llewelyn and Harsha Pillay] of a newly established car-audio business, to the 2015 CIPS Award winning CEO [Hanck van Laar] of a bespoke procurement focused consultancy agency, to one of the Directors [Gillian Lowndes] of a high profile law firm which offers specialist services in Family Law, divorce, custody matters and how to properly formulate a mutually balanced and well informed prenuptial agreement.
In addition to these interviews and many others conducted with various business owners, we also had to two superb interviews which will always be on our list of all-time favourites – these are the interviews we had with the current CEO [Nick Griffin] of one of SA’s premier game lodge collections [The Thornybush Collection] and the Founder and former CEO/Chairman [Raymond Ackerman] of one of South Africa’s most important supermarket groups, Pick ‘n Pay.
After each interview, we would post the podcast and its accompanying Blog on as many small business related LinkedIn groups as we could. Sometimes we would have the Administrators of these groups come back to us in a furious state, saying that what we had posted added no value to the Group whatsoever. When they did, we simply shrugged them off, as how can sharing the teachings of what very rich and successful small business owners did to create their prosperity, not be of interest to other small business owners? Sometimes we would be locked out of LinkedIn for what the group’s rules deemed to be inappropriate behaviour, but when this happened, all we did was to apologise and after a week or so they would let us out of LinkedIn jail.
If we were not adding tremendous value into the lives of business and success minded people out there, how come our first podcast platform showed more than 200,000 downloads in just under 24 months?
